Pro-Caliphate Group Attacks Atatürk Poster

A group of pro-caliphate people has attacked the poster of the founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

At a Caliphate Conference organized by the Köklü Değişim Magazine, a group of attendees ripped the poster of Atatürk hanged in the conference hall. The conference was held in Istanbul for the 92nd anniversary of the abolition of the caliphate. 

A speaker named Mehmet Pabak, the chairman of Scientific and Cultural Association (İLKAV by its Turkish initials) targeted two Atatürk posters while speaking: “They abolished caliphate, at the end of which we cannot escape from the shadow of who did it. There are pictures [of him] at the two sides of this room.” He referred to the poster as oppression. 

Other speakers and presenter of the conference continued criticizing the presence of Atatürk poster in the conference room, expressing that they had discussed the issue with the municipality, for taking the posters down. 

Murat Özer, the chairman of İmkan-Der association, also stated: “After so many years, we see those posters which do not look at us any more in agony on both sides of the room and I share this happiness with you.” 

In the meantime, Ahmet Kalkan, the chairman of Kale-der association, made a speech, also targeting the Atatürk posters and resembled the national receptions to pagan rituals. “Our children are made to stand in silence in front of pagan icons every week.” he stated.
