Unity of European Alevi Confederation (AABF) issued a statement announcing the suspension of its relations with the PKK-linked 'Democratic Power Union' after the group chanted pro-PKK slogans in an anti-Erdogan rally held in Cologne on Saturday, November 12

Unity of European Alevi Confederation (AABF) issued a statement announcing the suspension of its relations with the PKK-linked 'Democratic Power Union' after the group chanted pro-PKK slogans in an anti-Erdogan rally held in Cologne on Saturday, November 12.

A group of PKK sympathizers settled in the front line of the Deutzer Werft Square on the riverside of Rhine had chanted slogans for Abdullah Öcalan, the jailed leader of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The group of sympathizers of which refused hauling down the banners advocating Öcalan and the PKK caused tension among the Alevi community in Europe.

Later on, The AABF issued a statement announcing the suspension of its relations with the PKK-linked 'Democratic Power Union' in response to the escalating crisis among the Alevi community in Europe.

The AABF made the following statement concerning the future of the relations with the Democratic Power Union,

"Dear friends, The AABF's 'Say no to Fascism and Sharia' rally held in Cologne, Germany on November 12, 2016 with the support of the Democratic Power Union has made the history despite all negative aspects with broad participation and determination of struggle. However, this has deeply upset us as all our good intentions, efforts, suggestions for finding a solution and sensitivities are ignored. In this sense the participation of the AABF in the Democratic Power Union has become questionable and therefore we decided to review our decision to be a part of this union..."

The statement also said, "We announce to the public that we suspend all of our relations with the 'Democratic Power Union' until the sensitivities of the Alevi Movement become clear and understandable for all sides."

The European Alevi Movement also stressed in the announcement that the Alevi movement which is officially recognized as a democratic institution across Europe will never allow Alevis to gain a bad reputation by being associated with illegal organizations.
