Turkey recognized the former Police Intelligence head Ramazan Akyürek as the person behind the assassination of Hrant Dink. He is known to be a Gülenist police officer and had a finger in almost every conspiracy of the recent history. He was sent to Silivri Prison in the 28th February.
Ramazan Akyürek was the number one in the General Directorate of Security's intelligence report regarding the Gülenist network inside the Police Department in 5 February 1999.
Stunning details from the report

According to the intelligence report regarding the assasination of journalist Hrant Dink, "Ramazan Akyürek, the head of Security Directorate at that time was aware of all developments from the beginning to the end and had the authority to made all the necessary assessments however, he malpracticed."
Sabri Uzun, the head of the Police Intelligence Department before Akyürek said the following in his testimony regarding Dink’s murder, "The person who hid the intelligence report regarding Dink murder is Ali Fuat Yılmazer, the Branch Director of the C-Unit of the Intelligence Department of the Security Directorate. The report was hidden from me and the chief supervisors of the civil service. Everyone knows that this is the work of a powerhouse outside of the constitution. Essentially, a network inside the state institutions liquidated the figures who constitute a threat against them to reach their goals. Then the same network conducted their operations. The murder of Hrant Dink is one of these events. Dink murder would be a detonator for the other operations and the investigations. The explosives which were connected to this detonator were Ergenekon, Balyoz (Sledgehammer), OdaTV, Military Espionage, Assassination of Admirals, Match Fixing and February 28 Operations.”
Police Inspector Levent Yarımel, also said in his testimony in scope of the investigation that the telephone conversations of Yasin Hayal, the instigator of the assasination were deleted by someone from the Police Intelligence Department. Ramazan Akyürek was the head of Security Directorate at that time.
Akyürek is the head of Gülenist network inside the Security Directorate
Defendants of the Dink trial also revealed the truth by admitting their relation with Akyürek:
Yasin Hayal: In my opinion, the person who charged Erhan Tuncel as a police informant is the instigator of the assasination.
Erhan Tuncel: Ramazan Akyürek [the head of the Police Intelligence Department] and Ali Fuat Yılmazer [the Branch Director of the C-Unit of the Intelligence Department of the Security Directorate] did not prevent the murder despite the information given. The gendarmerie had no capacity to organize this (murder). I also had nothing to do with the murder. They're using me as a fall guy."
Ogün Samast: I went to Erhan Tuncel, he also mentioned Ramazan Akyürek and Ali Fuat Yılmazer and tried to show me that we are safe."
Samast was being followed in the day of event. Samast informed Hayal that he’s being followed by someone. Hayal responded saying "do not worry, they are with us".
His lawyer is the lawyer of Fethullah Gülen
Two of the lawyers of Fethullah Gülen Nurullah Albayrak and Adnan Şeker also served as the lawyer of Akyürek.
