Turkey had focused on the F-4 planes after the shady plane crashes in recent weeks which were resulted with killing of six pilots. The postponement of the F-35 jets produced by the USA left Turkey in a risky position. .
Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industries issued a project information document regarding the National Fighter Jet Project. In other words, Turkey took the first concrete step on producing its national fighter jets.
Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industries invited Turkish companies to take part in the first national TF-X fighter jet project. 5th generation National fighter jets are expected to take place of F-16s.

Defense Industry Executive Committee decided to start contract negotiations with Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. in 15 December 2010 meeting to start the conceptual design of national fighter jets which are expected to be used by the Turkish Air Force after 2020.
Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) and TUSAŞ have signed a contract in 23 August 2011 in accordance with this purpose and the project calender was launched in 29 September 2011 following the creation of the necessary administrative requirements.
At the end of the contract, all technical and administrative data will be collected, program calender and budget will be calculated and presented to Undersecretariat for Defense Industries and Turkish Air Force for the final assessment.
