According to Marlin Dick from the Daily Star, an Iranian general lost his life during a failed campaign to seize territory in southern Syria.
It said the dead were from around 10 villages in the area of Busr al-Harir and the nearby rocky region known as the Lajat, where regime forces and paramilitary allies sought on Monday to attack rebel positions and cut off supply lines.
The Iranian news agency ABNA said an Iranian general, Hadi Kajbaf, was killed Sunday in Deraa during the clashes. It identified him as an adviser with Syrian forces, and acknowledged that his body was being held by the rebels.
The assault began late Sunday evening as government forces pounded the area with artillery before their assault. When the fighting picked up, a host of rebel groups rushed reinforcements to the site and repulsed the attack.
